Small LCD Monitors
The first thing that one has to know here is how do we
classify a small LCD monitor?
They are no different from a LCD monitor in technology and as the name suggests are
classified according to their size. A LCD monitor from 5 inches to 13 inches comes into the small LCD monitor range
(this range is a rough parameter on which these screens are classified; they can come smaller or larger than this
and enter the gray area). A perfect substitute for people who spend long hours in front of their computers and have
been using CRT monitors would be an 11 – 13 inch LCD monitor. They have greater clarity, are lighter and also carry
a style statement for the more fashion conscious user.
They are available in sizes even as small as 2.5 inches across and are made to fit
anywhere. The smaller screens also avoid the input lag of the time when the image is fed to the screen to the time
it is displayed and have short response time. A major problem with the smaller counterparts of the LCD is the
occurrence of dead pixels on the screen. Unlike in the case of the larger screens, where some dead pixels do not
hamper the viewing as much, in the smaller screens, due to the size, even a few stuck pixels can make them
unusable. Dead pixels are caused by defective transistors causing permanently lit or
unlit pixels in the display.
Another problem with these screens is the limited colour display that is offered by some
companies; however, if you’re willing to spend some extra bucks for a quality product, you can go for a
company/product that offers a screen with better colour display and better resolution options. Look for them
carefully. Small LCD monitors come equipped with various other products as per the need of the buyers. Say for
example, most which are used in cameras come with a mounting rod that can be clamped onto the camera. Since they
are purpose specific products, they come with these add-ons. The major uses they have are for cars, mobile phones,
portable DVD players and digital cameras (still and video). Much less efficient for the money you would shell out
for them (as compared to larger monitors) small LCD monitors come in various packages and feature settings ranging
from 320x240 resolution to built in stereos.
A small LCD with a stand is perfect for your digital video/still camera if you are into
photography as a sport/hobby or profession. They newest rage is in the use of these screens as portable TVs for
cars or long road trips. The screen is fitted with an antenna and can catch signals as they are broadcasted,
however these screens are not very handy as the use at the time you are mobile. As a result, the signals received
change and picture quality changes with them. Moreover, the screens require frequent re-setting as if your travel
involves changing states often.
Another most recent trend is the use of touch screens, which are used for small electronics like car stereo systems
and universal remotes.
